New York City advertising executive Roger Thornhill is mistaken for a government agent by a group of foreign spies, setting off a deadly chase across the country. Forced to go on the run as danger closes in, he tries to understand why he has been targeted while becoming involved with a woman whose true loyalties remain uncertain.
