In 1950s Georgia, a poor cotton farmer and his sons pin their hopes on a family legend: gold believed to be buried somewhere on their land by an ancestor. As they search the farm for the hidden fortune, the strain of poverty weighs on the household, while infidelity, unemployment, and drinking deepen the tensions that threaten to tear the family apart.
